Three Ottery St Mary Scouts have just helped Devon Scouts to win the National Smallbore Rifle Association annual Summer Junior Competition. Theodore (Explorer Scout), Joe (Scout) and Henry (Scout), despite this being their first attempt at a National team smallbore rifle competition, secured first place in the Under 15 category in a team of 4.

This competition attracts some of the very best junior shooters in the country and in order to win, the 3 of them shot two targets each of 10 bullets at 25yds with the aim of hitting a dot 1mm across. All three of them either hit the dot or got within 6mm of it with every one of their 20 shots. An outstanding achievement.

“These 3 youngsters illustrate just what can be accomplished in a relatively short time in the sport of target shooting and Devon Scouts are at the forefront of target shooting development within Scouting in the Southwest” said Bruce Harvey, Assistant Scout Leader.
